The D’Art are handmade tiles mounted together on a mat, like a real work of art! This wall tile comes from one of our factories in Fez, Morocco. The mosaic mat is 30×30cm and therefore easy to place, the surface is smooth yet vibrant and has beautiful color nuances. Because each individual tile on the mat is slightly different, a vibrant result is created. Although the tile looks rustic it also fits perfectly in a modern interior.
Zelliges (pronounced “zulliezjes”) are handmade wall tiles from Morocco. They are baked in a special way and later cut diagonally so that they can be placed together very tightly. This labor-intensive work gives the tile its own looks and character. The clay used for the production of Zelliges can only be found in Fez, Morocco.
This clay contains lime pits that can regularly be found on the surface of the tile or in the glaze. This also applies to small irregularities in thickness in the surface. This is characteristic of this type of tile and should be considered normal.
Zelliges can only be used as wall tiles. If you are looking for this kind of tiles for your floor, take a look at our Plattas and Bejmat tiles.
Installing Zelliges
Moroccan tiles need extra care when installing them and have their own instruction manual. Upon purchase, you will receive a step-by-step plan with instructions and points of attention. We recommend that you read this manual carefully before installing the tiles. Or hire a good tiler who is familiar with this type of tile.
Suitable for
Zelliges can be used both indoors and outdoors. For outdoors the following applies: under a canopy, protected from water and sun. A significant frost can cause the glaze to crack.
They are only suitable as a wall tile. The surface is irregular so this can produce sharp edges. They are ideal tiles for your hall, toilet, bathroom and kitchen. Zelliges are also suitable for catering establishments.
Colors and sizes
Zelliges come in many different colors. Each batch has a small color difference. The tiles in 1 box also have color differences and irregularities, this has to do with the production process and should be considered normal. Zelliges are cut by hand to different sizes and shapes. In our country we often see square and rectangular shapes. In the country of origin, the most beautiful shapes are made which are often processed into mosaics. We can have Zellige tiles produced in almost any shape of your liking.
